Just a photo

I was just trying to put photos on my blog and have finally managed it.The photo shows my brother on the left(Siddharth Chaudhari,currently in his fourth year,at IIT Mumbai pursuing a degree in electrical engineering).His blog address is www.sidkc.blogspot.com.The small one is my cousin brother Harshal,In the middle is Alok,another cousin of mine(I have lots of cousins.someday I will publish photos of all of them).
And finally,the one on the right is ME.

Workshops

Here I am,smelling strongly of kerosene(Hold it! I am not attempting a suicide so don't worry:) and typying away at my keyboard(Did I say MY keybaord?My apologies) And why should I be smelling of kerosene then?Obvious question.The reason being that I have just attended a Workshop Practice session.
Such a nice place it is you see.Smells stongly of kerosene,acetylene, burning wood and metal.Add up the filthy overcoat that we have to wear , "professional " jobs which we have to do slogging our asses off and you have got a potent combination.No wonder people regularly throw up(I wont say vomit,It doesn't seem nice) and faint.But then an Second thoughts(maybe it was the third one,I can't remember),its not a bad place really.I really got to learn some 'real' stuff there.I made things that I knew won't actually pass the standards of skilled workers,but the joy which I get on seeing the completed job is kinda good.
Here are somethings which I have made in the workshop uptil now:
Welding:Included gas welding and Electric arc welding.

Smithy:Made a hook.

Sheet metal:Made a funnel.

Foundry:Made a sand cast for moulding

Lathes:Made a hammer

Fitting and Elctroplating:Made a nickel plated paper weight

Metrology:Studied how measurements are made.

Carpentry:Made a wooden shelf

Milling,Rolling,Power tools:made gears

Nice,No?And I get to buy my own hand made products sometime soon.Am surely gonna buy everything I made.And I forgot to mention, there is this interesting 'treasure hunt' coming up in workshop pracs sometime soon.Basically it involves finding any named tools from the workshop in a specified amount of time.(They expect us to remember all the tools in the whole damn place!)Everybody is gonna screw this one up for sure.
Actually the workshop is lucky that it has recieved so much place in my blog.it doesn't really figure in my important things.(Who said one has to write about important things in blogs?)But then every dog has his day.(Mine will came too...)

More Lingo!!

Here's an addition to BITS Pilani Lingo that I have been able to gather after consulting my wingies on lazy afternoon(you see,saturday is one of those lucky days where I have some free time):
Lacha:Laugh and chat
Usage:They went to the restaurant and had 'garam chai' with lots of lacha.
CDC:Compulsory disciplinary courses(courses which one has to clear to obtain a degree in a particular discipline)
FD:Faculty Divisions.
O Lab:"Oyster lab".Lab for VLSI design .Just the 2nd of its kind in India,worth around 200 crores and Birla is planning to invest more.
IPC:Information Processing Centre.Has over 250 comps for general use(although ghatia speed) , a Supercomputer(PARAM 10000) and some state of the art PC's scattered in differently named labs.
LTC:Lecture Theatre Complex:New Lecture Theatres built complete with wireless microphones and projectors with a seating capacity of each theatre to be400,though I doubt if even 40 people might be attending any given lecture on any given day.(You see I am one of the blessed guys to be in an insti which does not take attendance.Yes,you read it right,NO ATTENDANCE!!:)
MB:Meera Bhavan.Sole Hostel for Girls in BITS.With a 12 foot rock wall around it and a 6 foot barbed wire fencing over it,it is protected from predators like us.Damn it, even the corridors are hidden from sight by wooden boards.No male is ever allowed inside st any time of the year,not even the student's father!

Verb form:Ghotna,For Eg: Kal ke test ke liye ghotna hai.

Room Pop/Mom:Person who had the same room the previous year
Sidey:person who lives next door
Note:There are things like ID sidey,ID cousins,ID grandpops/moms,room grandpops/moms etc.
Tadi:Arrrogance.
Usage:Lagta hai sale ko bahut Tadi chadhi hai.
Assoc:Association
Psenti semite(P silent):Person in the final sem.
RAF: Recretional activities forum.Shows 12 hindi and 12 english movies in one sem for dirt cheap rates in the auditorium.All movies latest with sexy dolby sound and big screen.(Note that all the films are bought legally from distributors)
Audi:Auditorium.
Gults:People from Andhra.Majority population of BITS uptil now.Soon to change due to BITSAT.
